Waterway waste | Abandoned boats blemish coasts – Local – TheSunNews.com.
I’ve been harping on this topic for years. Someone should suggest this topic for next year’s CPORT meeting. A useful presentation of the logistics and legalities and funding sources for derelict disposal.
Hey, if we have a partnership with the USCG, perhaps they would like to help our industry clean up the waterways?

Doug, It is interesting to see this just as the NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) had a conference call today. The Waterways Management Sub-Committee has a charge to develop a model “Abandon Vessel” program which could be used by States to improve the ability to deal with this issue. C-PORT is involved and providing guidance on costing and various other points. The big issue in the end for vessels of no value is the funding for wreck removal. Each State needs to develop a fund and they are always looking to the Federal Gov’t for the money to support that funding. We are researching the avenues to obtain the funding as well. Hopefully this will be developed and materialize over the course of the next year.
