Complex Marine Claims Consultant
This position is responsible for the investigation and settlement of complex marine claims, within claims authority.
1. Handles complex and comprehensive cases. Identifies and coordinates supplemental investigation and legal discovery. Consults with brokers, insured and surveyors and attends conferences, as necessary.
2. Negotiates fair settlement of claims through tactful application of relationship skills.
3. Contributes to a reduced loss ratio through appropriate application of technical knowledge and relationship skills in handling claims.
4. Ensures reserving activities consistent with corporate policies through determination of and provision for probable financial impact of loss exposure. Establishes claim reserves.
5. Contributes to retention of current and new business through effective and diligent servicing of insureds and agents. Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level: Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for making high level coverage decisions and damage evaluations. Resolves coverage issues and assesses liability.

Without knowing it, they show their hand a bit here. Notice number 5 above mentions damage evaluations….so, what the hell is the Complex Marine Claims Consultant supposed to do with a salvage claim with no damage? Exactly, they deny it because they can’t think outside of the “gotta have damage to make a claim” box.
