Travelers, the second-biggest U.S. commercial insurer, joins JPMorgan Chase & Co., American Express Co. and Bank of America Corp. among financial companies in the Dow.
File under how ironic: Travelers is replacing CitiGroup on the Dow, which was a company formed by a merger of CitiBank and Travelers Insurance. After the merger, Citi spun the Travelers division off for a huge chunk of cash which they quickly invested in credit default swaps and securitized debt obligations. Travelers paid a huge sum to Citi to get buy their umbrella logo back [see my old post on that here].
