About Me

2009 marks my 18th year in the marine rescue and salvage business. I currently work for SafeSea as their summer captain on Block Island.
In addition to my USCG 100t Master’s License, I am a PADI diver and I am certified in ABYC Standards and Marine Systems. I do a little surveying on the side. Before working for Safe/Sea, I owned my own towing and assistance company in Los Angeles, CA. My company, Santa Monica Bay Towing, was a service provider for Vessel Assist Association.
I had three tow boats and my area covered almost 400 sq. miles of the Pacific Ocean.
I was based in Marina Del Rey, CA.
I’ve been around boats all my life, and I’ve made my living on boats since 1992. I have seen some pretty weird stuff – I even towed an ultra-light airplane. Over the years, there’s been a lot of broken boats, sunken boats, burned up boats and general maritime mayhem. I have also fixed a lot of broken boats, raised a lot of sunken boats, extinguished a few burning boats and found far too many lost boaters.
Before I got into the marine towing & salvage business, I worked two summers as a harbor patrolman on Catalina Island. Before I turned boating into an income source, I was a scenic carpenter in Hollywood. I built all the rooms that the TV character ALF appeared in, among other things.
These days, when the New England leaves start to turn a suspicious color, I point my 40′ Trawler WATER TORTURE to the south, and head down the Intracoastal Waterway, looking for trouble and sunsets. I am accompanied by an obnoxious a cat named Noodle. I refuse to fold my socks.
